Learning data is stored locally and used only to provide YLLA
Your library, subtitle and translation tracks, bookmarks, playback position, video history, language preferences, and learning statuses are stored in browser storage. Clearing browser data removes them — use export in Settings.
Chrome extension
The extension reads the ID, title, and position of an already-open YouTube video, plus available subtitle text. To open YLLA, translate, or sync vocabulary and subtitles, it sends ylla.info the video ID and metadata, language pair, subtitle or selected-fragment text, and learning-state data. It does not read YouTube cookies, passwords, or sign-in tokens.
Server processing
YLLA temporarily processes the submitted data to retrieve subtitles, translate them, and synchronize learning data. If you voluntarily add your own OpenRouter key, selected text and the language pair are sent directly to OpenRouter for translation; the key remains only in local extension storage.
Usage examples
When you request it, the saved segment text and selected language pair are sent to an LLM provider to create five examples. Finished examples are saved only in your browser with the entry.
